This game Gemstone IV has it's own real estate market. You can purchase and sell homes from and to other people who play this game, in exchange for either silver coins in the game, or real Life currency outside of the game. You can also purchase a house for your own character in the game if you wish to as well.

However, houses in this game do not sell or trade for cheap. They would cost millions upon millions of silver coins in the game when attempting to purchase one through another player, by purchasing their account/character slots, etc.

So obviously, it is definitely a tall order to acquire a house in this game, but just like with opening up your own business, it can be done. :)
