To accept an item from another Player, NPC Character, or Creature in this game, after having been offered the item, just type the word ACCEPT (Item), then press Enter on your keyboard or keypad, and this will cause your character to accept and receive the item that is being offered to him/her, thereby placing it into your character's hands. Again, it takes a little practice before you get it right, but after awhile it becomes just like second nature. =)
